Letter from the Gaon Rabbi Nathan Bamberger, Av Beit Din of Würzburg, to his Brother, the Gaon Rabbi Moshe, the Aruch LaNer's Son-in-Law. Unprinted

Beautiful letter of divrei Torah, entirely handwritten and signed by the gaon Rabbi Nathan Bamberger,  av beit din of Würzburg, son and successor of the elder rabbi of Würzburg, the gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Dov Bamberger. The letter was sent to his brother, the gaon Rabbi Moshe Aryeh Bamberger,  av beit din of Bad Kissengen, and son-in-law of the gaon, the author of Aruch LaNer. [Undated and without indication of the location nor year it was written.] To the best of our (electronic) examination, this letter has not been printed.

The letter discusses a question in the laws of Passover sent by the gaon Rabbi Moshe Bamberger,  av beit din of Bad Kissingen, to his brother, the gaon Rabbi Nathan,  av beit din of Würzburg, a sharp difficulty that relies on the text of the gemara here. The gaon Rabbi Nathan quotes poskim who discuss the topic in his letter to his brother [Chatam Sofer siman 104, Teshuvah MeAhavah,  siman 250 and more]. He writes that he tried looking in old prints of Sha"s to see if he could find a different version that would resolve the sharp kushia. He sought, and he found! The gaon Rabbi Eliyahu of Vilna changes the gemara's text slightly, which completely resolves the gaon Rabbi Moshe's difficulty.

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for brief biographies of  the gaon Rabbi Nathan HaLevi Bamberger and of the addressee,  the gaon Rabbi Moshe Aryeh (Leib) HaLevi Bamberger.

[1] leaf, approximately 13x22 cm. Entirely handwritten and signed by Rabbi Nathan Bamberger.
Very fine condition. Fold mark.
