As is known, the night of Shavuot, according to Kabbalah and Chassidut, is a very lofty and concealed night. The Zohar maintains that people who say the tikkun are like bridesmaids decorating the bride - the Torah - throughout the night towards her arrival at the wedding canopy the next morning - when the Ten Commandments are read. That very night, a person's shadow foretells whether he will live or die that year, and all who are awake at night and occupied with Torah are guaranteed that they will not die in that same year.
