Panim Yafot. Ostroh. Four Volumes from the First Edition

Chamishah Chumshei Torah with Rash"i's commentary and more. With the Panim Yafot commentary by Rabbi Pinchas HaLevi Horowitz, author of Hafla'ah, and with Shem Ephraim by Rabbi Ephraim Zalman Margaliot. Ostroh, 1825-1826. First edition. Four parts.

First edition of the well-known work Panim Yafot by Rabbi Pinchas Horowitz, author of Hafla'ah, a disciple of the Maggid of Mezeritch.

The sefer was printed about twenty years posthumously. It was edited by the author's mechutan, the renowned gaon Rabbi Ephraim Zalman Margaliot of Brod. Rabbi Ephraim Zalman Margaliot wrote a lengthy detailed and interesting foreword at the beginning of the sefer, and he noted that it had not been properly arranged. Rabbi Ephraim Zalman Margaliot added his own commentary on Rash"i's, which he entitled Shem Ephraim. His commentary is printed at the end of each volume.

Some copies do not include the Shem Ephraim commentary.

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of the sacred gaon Rabbi Pinchas HaLevi Ish Horowitz.
