Paris Tana"ch: Nevi'im Acharonim. Paris, 16th Century. Miniature Edition. Exceptionally Beautiful
Magnificent volume from the early and renowned edition of the Tana"ch known as the Paris Tana"ch. This volume contains sifrei Ketuvim Daniel, Ezra and Nechemiah, along with Trei Asar Nevi'im Acharonim [Hoshea, Yoel, Amos, Ovadiah, Yonah, Michah, Nachum, Chabakuk, Tzfaniah, Chagai, Zechariah and Malachi]. Paris, Roberto Stephanus Press. 1545.
One of the most important editions of Tana"ch, printed in the 16th century. The Tana"ch was printed in Paris, the largest and most prominent city in France, by Robert Stephanus, official printer for French kings. Printing this magnificent and luxurious Tana"ch was intended for the aristocracy and academia, and is one of the most impressive examples of luxurious high-quality printing from the French Renaissance period.
The title pages feature Stephanus's printer's device, an elder standing to the right of a tree (a reference to the Tree of Knowledge) from which branches extend. The elder is raising his hand upward, and a ribbon appears among the tree branches bearing the words Noli altum sapere ["Do not seek to know what is above"]. Refer to: Ya'ari, Diglei HaMadpisim HaIvri'im, picture 27 and the explanation on page 135.
Daniel Ezra (and Nechemiah): 120 leaf; Trei Asar: 117 leaf. Title page for Daniel and Ezra (with Nechemiah) and an additional title page for Trei Asar. 10 cm. Magnificent binding.
Fine-very fine condition. Minimal aging stains. Original antique leather binding, beautiful and well-preserved. With a Latin imprint on the spine.
