Incunabula: Passage from the First Printed Passover Haggadah. Rome, 1474

First printed haggadah in the world: passage from the text of the Passover haggadah from the first edition of Mishneh Torah L'HaRamba"m. Rome, c. 1474.

Excerpt from Mishneh Torah L'HaRamba"m [Sefer Zmanim] on which text from the Passover haggadah is printed. This Passover haggadah is considered the first haggadah ever printed. The passages appearing here are "Rabban Gamliel Omer - Pesach Matzah U'Maror" and "V'Hi SheAmdah."

This edition is known as the first edition of Mishneh Torah L'HaRamba"m printed in its entirety, hence its bibliographic importance. Much has been written about this edition. We will specifically point out Tishbi's article in Kiryat Sefer, Noach 1982, pp. 843-846 along with Aharon Freiman, Otzar L'Melechet HaDefus HaIvri HaRishonah B'Meah HaChamesh Esreh 17A.

This piece of paper was stored in genizat krichot over close to half a millennium [450 years], which protected this paper and ink in the best possible manner, and the vast majority of the text is completely legible and clear.
