Lengthy and Interesting Letter from Late in the Bilgorayer Rav's Life. Tel-Aviv, 1949

Letter of especially rare length [approximately 20 lines], entirely handwritten and signed by the sacred Rabbi Mordechai of Bilgoray, son of the Mahari"d of Belz, and father of the present Admo"r of Belz. Sent to "my mechutan" Rabbi Shmuel Aharon Shchedrovitsky of Haifa. Tel Aviv, 1949.

The letter was sent towards the end of the Bilgorayer Rav's life, about a year before his passing. It apparently deals with his efforts to receive a visa to enter the United States to establish and maintain the Belz Chassidic court that he established with his own two hands alongside his sacred brother. A few minyanim of their Chassidim in the 1940s became the Chassidic empire it is today. Aside from the addressee named in this letter, the renowned Agudah activist Rabbi Shmuel Shchedrovitsky, referred to several times in this letter as "my mechutan, " the letter also mentions the renowned American activist Rabbi Elimelech Gavriel ("Mike") Tress, president of Agudath Israel of America. Incidentally, these two activists were involved in the rescue of the sacred Belz and Bilgoray brothers from the Holocaust.

Despite the relatively aggressive tone of the letter, the Bilgorayer Rav repeats his blessings in this letter, and signs in his name and the name of the dynasty of his sacred ancestors. "May Hashem help you from nachat, to compensate you for your goodness" and again "May Hashem help with redemption and salvation, the small one, Mordechai son of the Admo"r of Belz."

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of Rabbi Mordechai Rokeach of Belz, the Bilgorayer Rav and the addressee, Rabbi Shmuel Aharon Shchedrovitsky.
