Passover Haggadah with Marathi Translation. Pune, 1874

Passover Haggadah with Marathi translation. Illustrations. Pune, 1874. Rare haggadah.

Specifications: 2, [9] leaves, [1], 5-50, 44-5, 5 pages. Yaari 1077; Otzar Haggadot 1437.

Content: The Haggadah follows the customs of the "Benei Israel" in India. The title page is in Marathi, except for the title of the book. The Marathi translation is on facing pages with parallel pagination. The first leaves feature large illustrations of Moshe and Aharon, baking matzot, and the "simanim" of the seder per the customs of the Benei Israel in India.

Unique Features: Especially rare haggadah. Refer to A. Yaari, HaDefus HaIvri B'Pune, p. 83-84, with a photo of the title page (within HaDefus HaIvri B'Artzot HaMizrach, section two).
Interesting Detail: The laws regarding "hag'alat keilim" include a special blessing that is unknown and not mentioned by halachic authorities.

Condition: Moderate-fine. The haggadah was professionally restored - primarily with paper mounted to complete the blank margins. Minimal worming marks. New, half-parchment binding.
