"Geonei Yisrael - Rishonim V'Achronim." Handwritten Notebook

Notebook with handwritten biographies of 40 Jewish leaders, Earlier and Later sages. Unidentified writer.

Nice, rabbinical handwriting. The leaves of the notebook describe the biographies of Jewish leaders, starting with the Rif and ending with the most prominent Achronim: the Besh"t, the GR"A and the Chatam Sofer. The biographies are written in concise, interesting language. There is a basic review of the transmission of the "mesora" through the generations for each sage, integrated with personal stories from his life. For example, the biography of the Ramban includes a description of his three-year stay in the Holy Land and the things he did there. The biography of the Chatam Sofer includes a description of his daily schedule [he got up early at 4:00 in the morning on both Shabbat and the weekdays, even though he was always awake until midnight ... in the winter when the day broke, when he was still adorned in his Tallit and Tefilin, he studied the Tur Ohr Chaim and Magen Avraham, except for erev Shabbat or a day when there was a brit mila and he was the mohel ..."]. In addition, the entry regarding the Baal Shev Tov includes lengthy descriptions of his meditations and meeting with the "Orach Chaim" and more.

Clear, legible print handwriting. Apparently served as a draft for a printed work. It is apparent that this book served as a source for a number of early works regarding Jewish sages.

[40] leaves. 24 cm. Hard binding with gilt text: גאוני ישראל ראשונים ואחרונים. Very fine condition.
