Letter from Rabbi Moshe Clears, Rosh Yeshiva of 'Ohr Torah' and Chief Ashkenazic Rabbi of Tiberias
Official letter of appreciation from the managers of the 'Ohr Torah' yeshiva in Tiberias, with the holy signature of Rabbi Moshe Clears and other signatories, dated Adar A [1922], Yiddish with a small amount of Hebrew and English.
Thank you letter designed to honor Rabbi David Stein and his wife Ch. Y. Edelstein, on official 'Ohr Torah' stationery, the donor's names are in gold ink. Scribal handwriting styled in Yiddish. Rabbi Moshe Clears' signature and those of the yeshiva's managers are in the margins of the letter. The back page lists the regulations of the Talmud Torah and Yeshiva 'Ohr Torah' of Tiberias in Yiddish and English on facing pages.
Rabbi Moshe Clears [1876-1934] established the 'Ohr Torah' yeshiva next to the grave of Rabbi Meir Baal HaNes and stood at its head until his passing. He traveled to Slonim for a few years to teach the son of the Admor Rabbi Shmuel Weinberg of Slonim, by request of the Admor. He was known for his holy conduct [he would stay in the yeshiva from Sunday through Thursday and go home to his house, which was within the walls of Tiberias, only at the end of the week]. His children are among the heads of the Slonim chassidut.
[2] leaves official Yeshivat 'Ohr Torah HaKlalit' stationery with a picture of the yeshiva, in lithographic print. 29x23 cm. Very fine condition.
