A Letter from Rabbi Akiva Sofer, 1952

A letter on a postcard in the handwriting and with the signature [and personal stamp] of Rabbi Akiva Sofer of Pressburg, author of 'Da'at Sofer'. 1952. The postcard was sent to Yoel Pollack. 

Rabbi Akiva Sofer [1878-1959]: The 'Da'at Sofer', son of Rabbi Simcha Bunim Rabbi of Pressburg, author of the 'Shevet Sofer'. Served as the last Rabbi of Bratislava. At the young age of 29 he was appointed to succeed his father as chief rabbi of Pressburg [which was in the Kingdom of Hungary at the time]. He was elected to serve as president of the Council of Orthodox Rabbis, an organization which united over three hundred orthodox communities throughout Hungary. The fourth Rabbi of Pressburg from the family of the Chatam Sofer. He escaped to Switzerland during the Second World War, and from there to the Land of Israel. He also served as a member of the Moetzet Gedolei HaTorah. When he immigrated to Israel after the Second World War, he re-established the Pressburg yeshiva in Jerusalem, and concurrently served as the president of the 'Kollel Shomrei HaChomot' and 'Batei Ungarin' in Jerusalem.
