"Tzidkat HaTzaddik" - essay about Sefer HaEshkol published by Rabbi Tzvi Binyamin Auerbach ztz"l, av beit din of Halberstadt, to remove the accusation of plagiarism, by Rabbi Chanoch Ehrentrau and Rabbi Ya'akov Schorr.
Sefer HaEshkol is a halachic work authored in the time of the Rishonim and is attributed to Avraham ben Yitzchak of Narvona (Ra'ava"d II), who lived in the 12th century in the south of France. The sefer was printed for the first time in 1868 by Rabbi Binyamin Tzvi Auerbach, a leading German gadol ("The Tzv"a) according to an old manuscript, with an extensive commentary entitled "Nachal Eshkol." Immediately following its publication, an article was printed claiming that Rabbi Auerbach's sefer was fraudulent and contained a substantial amount of unoriginal content.
After Rabbi Binyamin Tzvi Auerbach's passing, Rabbi Shalom Albek published his opposition to the Auerbach edition, claiming it was fraudulent.
In this work, Rabbi Chanoch HaKohen Ehrentrau of Munich and Rabbi Ya'akov Schorr, av beit din of Katub, responded to Albek's claims. With an essay in German by Prof. R' Avraham Berliner.
