Sacred Letter from the Mashgiach Maran Rabbi Yechezkel Levenstein ztz"l

"May we all merit to be among those who are close to Hashem. Mussar study helps very much with this"

Sacred letter on topics in emunah, closeness to Hashem, mussar study and more, from "The Mashgiach" - the gaon and tzaddik Rabbi Yechezkel Levenstein - one of the leading ba'alei hamussar in the previous generation, the mashgiach of Mir and Ponovezh.

Reb Chatzkel was asked (the addressee is not named) about "Holech Tamim" - the character trait of Avraham Avinu - how we, as human beings, can achieve a high level of faith, of "wholeheartedness." He responds that Chaza"l indeed discuss this trait, but not with the goal of understanding it completely, "only according to our situation and our concepts."

He brings an example from what David HaMelech says in Tehillim, "Who will live in Your tents, who will dwell on Your sacred mountain." "Who will live in Your tents" refers to a high level, and "who will dwell on Your sacred mountain" refers to an even higher level. The desire of tzaddikim to dwell "on Your sacred mountain" is to be closer to Hashem, to have the merit of complete truth - Hashem spoke to him face-to-face."

He concludes, "May we all merit to be among those who are close to Hashem. Mussar study helps very much with this."
