Ktav Kabbalah in the Halachahs of Ritual Slaughter for a Rabbi who Had to Accept the Position of Shochet instead of a Position in the Rabbinate! 1919
Ktav Kabbalah for a shochet, written by Rabbi Yerachmiel Gershon Edelstein, av beit din of Shumiatch (grandfather of the rosh yeshivah, shlit"a, who was named after him) for Rabbi Yehoshua Alter Waldman, av beit din of Końskowola, Poland and then a renowned rabbi in Jerusalem. For a certain period in his life, he had no alternative but to take a position as a shochet v'bodek.
In the ktav kabbalah, Rabbi Edelstein writes tremendous praise about Rabbi Yehoshua Alter, "I am prepared to attest that this prominent person, my faithful friend, who I know to have Torah and reverence even beyond his wisdom ... He served in the rabbinate in several cities. He has learned the art of ritual slaughter and checking for several years, and has some experience in it. He is presently seeking work in this sacred pursuit." He says that he has examined his shechitah, as have other local shochtim, and have observed that it is done. Therefore, 'the humble will eat and be satisfied ...' and I am certain that in his reverence, Hashem will not allow mishap to occur through him, as Chaza"l say, Hashem does not allow mishaps to occur through tzaddikim ..."
