Haggadat Zevach Pesach. Bistritz, 1592. The Only Hebrew Book Printed in Bistritz. Especially Rare
Sefer Zevach Pesach, Passover haggadah, with a commentary by Rabbi Yitzchak Abarbanel. Bistritz, Kalonymus ben Mordechai Jaffe Press, 1592. Incomplete copy.
The only Hebrew book printed in Bistritz. Rabbi Kalonymus ben Mordechai Jaffe printed many sefarim in Lublin. In 1592, a plague broke out in central Poland, and in Lublin. Rabbi Kalonymus was forced to flee the city with his printing tools. He settled in the village of Bistritz, where he printed this sefer over the course of two months. After the plague, he returned to Lublin and continued printing books there. Refer to: Ch. D. Friedberg, Toldot HaDefus HaIvri B'Polaniah, Tel Aviv, 1950, p 52.
The year of print is calculated from the detail on the title page, from the verse: And he stood between the dead and the living and the plague stopped. [ויעמוד בין המתים ובין החיים והמגפה נעצרה]. The printer also wrote the name of the mayor of Bistritz, and not the mayor of Lublin.
Especially rare haggadah.
