Especially Rare: Chen Tov. Chassidic Approbations. Koritz, 1780 - Printed at the Same Time and in the Same Place as the First Chassidic Sefer Ever
Sefer Chen Tov by the great gaon Rabbi Hillel b"r Aharon av beit din of Kapust. Part I, on Talmudic topics; Part II, on Tractate Avot. Koritz, R' Tzvi Hirsch Margaliot and his son-in-law R' Shmuel b"r Yissachar Ber Press, 1780. Only edition, especially rare. Elegant copy.
That same year, in the same place, at the same printers, and in the same format, the first Chassidic sefer ever was printed - Toldot Ya'akov Yosef.
The sefer opens with approbations from the country's rabbis: The sacred gaon Rabbi Aharon Shmuel HaKohen, av beit din of Stepan and then of Sdeh Lavan [Bila Tserkva] (author of V'Tzaveh HaKohen) - primary disciple of the Maggid of Mezeritch; Rabbi Avraham Shmuel av beit din of Mohilev; Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Lipschutz, av beit din of Smilovitch; Rabbi Yehudah Leib Auerbach, av beit din of Klevan, and more.
Exceptionally rare sefer. The National Library has only one copy, from the Mehlman collection, and it is missing its title page. Mif'al HaBibliographiah lists it according to a copy in the New York City municipal library. Yet here is a complete copy, and in rare condition!
