Large, Impressive HaMelech-Style Megillat Esther. Ashkenazic Script. [Europe, 19th Century]
Huge Meggilat Esther [approximately half a meter], designed for the shaliach tzibbur. Beit Yosef script [Ashkenazic]. Each column opens with the word HaMelech. Beautiful graphic illustration at the top of each column, produced with the scribe's quill, along with additional decorations on the page with the list of Haman's ten sons. [Europe, 19th century.]
The scroll was written with much elegance on thick, shiny, high-quality parchment. The megillah apparently belonged to a prominent European community. This is also evident from the maintenance of the meggilah over the hundreds of years that have passed since it was written, with any perforation or fading immediately repaired, hence the meggilah remaining in such excellent condition, with clear, bold script to this day
Dimensions: 2 sheets. 11 columns, 42 lines in each column. Sheet width: approximately 55 cm. Text height: approximately 40 cm. Kosher megillah.
Fine condition. Professional repairs throughout the years in both the parchment and in the script. Tear in the white part of the parchment at the beginning of the megillah, very far from the text.
