Letter from Rabbi Shalom Halberstam of Niska, Grandson of the Divrei Chaim of Sanz

Lengthy postcard-letter [approximately 20 lines], entirely handwritten by the av beit din of Niska, the sacred Admo"r Rabbi Shalom Halberstam, and with his signature. Sent to the Chassid Rabbi Zusha Reis. Niska, 1933. Letters from him are especially rare.

In the letter, the Admo"r describes his difficult disease over the past two years, and that according to the doctors' recommendations, he cannot eat meat, nor consume specific drinks; he cannot "move" [!!] at all, even to just leave his home. As such, the Admo"r requests that he take care of his friends for him, and blesses him, "I am certain that the merit of my sacred forefathers will protect [you], and may you receive salvation in all the world's goodness."

The Admo"r's full signature appears at the end of his letter, "The youth Shalom Halberstam son of the pious rabbi of Gorlice, ztz"l, and grandson of the gaon and tzaddik of Sanz."

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of the Admo"r Rabbi Shalom Halberstam of Niska.
