Personal Chumash Used by the Ga'ava"d, Rabbi Bengis, with Lengthy Glosses in his Hand

Chumash Vayikra Part II with the Malbi"m's HaTorah V'HaMitzvah commentary. Warsaw, 1875. Bound with: Megillat Shir HaShirim with a separate title page, with the Shirei HaNefesh commentary. Warsaw, 1876. Special edition (see below).

This copy belonged to the great gaon Rabbi Reuven Zelig Bengis, from the beginning of his service in the rabbinate in Kalvarija (Lithuania) and then in Jerusalem, where he served as av beit din of the Edah HaChareidit. Many of his owner's stamps and notations appear along the book. Approximately five glosses in Rabbi Bengis' script appear in the book, two of which are lengthy. To the best of our examination, these glosses have never been printed.

This special edition is comprised only of Sefer Vayikra, divided into two parts. This is the second part of the second printing of the Malbi"m's commentary, with many supplements and revisions by the author.

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of Rabbi Reuven Zelig Bengis.
