Mateh Moshe. Frankfurt [1720]
Mateh Moshe. Customs of Ashkenaz communities and prayers for the weekdays, Shabbat and holidays, blessings and order of study, by Rabbi Moshe of Przemyśl. Frankfurt [1720].
118, 120-125 leaves, 22.5 cm. Thick paper, wide margins. Unique owner notation.
Second edition of this fundamental work regarding the customs of Ashkenazic communities. The author, Rabbi Moshe of Przemyśl was the noted disciple of the Maharshal, and he writes about his teacher in his introduction. The proofreader, Rabbi Shlomo Zalman London, author of "Kehilat Shlomo", also wrote an interesting introduction.
Two cherubs printed at the top of the title page, topped by a notation in an especially nice hand, in the shape of an arch. [I bought this book…month of Sivan…1789…Eliezer Zussman…ben Leib Chazan in Amsterdam].
Uncommon book. The copy in the National Library is missing its title page.
Half-parchment and marbleized paper binding from the end of the 19th century.
