Letter from the Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Yisrael Ya'akov Lubchansky to Rabbi Hillel Witkind. Baranovich, 1930s
Historic letter from the gaon and tzaddik Rabbi Yisrael Ya'akov Lubchansky, mashgiach of Rabbi Elchanan Wasserman's yeshivah in Baranovich and one of the leading Ba'alei Mussar, to the gaon and tzaddik Rabbi Hillel Witkind, the Alter of Novhardok's primary disciple, with respect the rescue of a yeshivah student from the compulsory draft. Baranovich, 1930s.
On the first part of the leaf, there is a letter from a youth by the name of Shmuel Shilovitzky, written to Rabbi Hillel Witkind, the Alter of Novhardok's primary disciple, rosh yeshivah of Beit Yosef in Tel Aviv, with a request for a certificate so that he will be considered a citizen of the Mandatory government, thus saving him from conscription into the Polish army.
On the bottom part of the letter is a letter from the gaon and tzaddik Rabbi Yisrael Ya'akov Lubchansky, may his blood be avenged, to Rabbi Hillel, with a request to see to the young man's request, "in the best way possible." Later on in his letter, Rabbi Yisrael Ya'akov blesses Rabbi Hillel with a mazal tov on the occasion of the inauguration of the Beit Yosef yeshivah's building in Tel Aviv.
