Mekraot Gedolot, Chamisha Chumshei Torah with many commentaries and with the "Aderet Eliyahu" commentary of the GR"A of Vilna. Dubrowno, 1804. Two volumes. First edition of the GR"A's commentary on the Torah. Introduction by the sons of the GR"A.

Unique features: Only a few books were printed in Dubrowno, and they are all uncommon - particularly this popular work. Two title pages, one for each volume. In this copy, the haftarot were added to the first volume. Refer to Vinograd's remark about this fact.
Background: The commentary of the GR"A of Vilna was printed here for the very first time. There is a particularly long introduction from the sons of the GR"A, Rabbi Yehuda Leib and Rabbi Avraham. The sons describe their father's prodigious greatness in Torah, write about the uniqueness of his commentary on the Torah and note that this edition was printed directly from his manuscript. Includes the approbation of Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin, the GR"A's great disciple [in the second volume].
The publisher, Rabbi Uri Shraga Feivish, Rabbi of Dubrowno, author of the Menorat Shlomo and Minchat Kalil commentaries also writes about his relationship with the GR"A. The commentary of the GR"A concludes with the printed statement: "And the holy work is complete, the entire commentary of the true Gaon, the wonder of the generation, G-dly man..Rabbeinu MHR"A Z"l of Vilna, the revealed and hidden on the Torah, his merit should stand by the rest of his works to publish them."
Condition: Moderate. The first four leaves of the first volume have been restored with professional reproductions of parts of the text. Professional marginal repair to the title page of the second volume. Stains. A few titles were touched when the leaves were cropped. Two magnificent leather bindings.
