Three Reports from the Office of the City Engineer of Jerusalem. 1967-8, 1969-70
Three annual reports from the office of the Office of the City Engineer of Jerusalem, Jerusalem Municipality. The first report was submitted in September 1968, immediately after the reunification of the city in the Six Day War.
In the introduction, the City Engineer of the time, A. Yaffe, writes: "This report...includes the period of tension and fear preceding the war, when all of the employees in my department who had not been called up for active service were enlisted to plan and carry out fortifications and defensive positions, and also includes the period of the war and the considerable growth which followed it. All of the members of the department worked tirelessly to unify all parts of the city, destroy the protective walls and barbed wire fences, remove the dangerous ruins...and improve the old roads...and repair the damage caused by the war. Every effort was made to erase the scenes of war as quickly as possible...".
The reports appear in three volumes [1967-8, 1969-70] including many photographs of Jerusalem after the war and during the restoration work, diagrams, charts, and future construction plans. Rare. Does not appear in the National Library.
3 volumes, each volume is 33 cm. Very fine condition.
