Letter from Rabbi Chaim Yaakov Naftali Silberberg - the Tzaddik of Warsaw
[1] leaf with text on both its sides. 11x15 cm.
Letter written and signed by Rabbi Chaim Yaakov Naftali Silberberg. The letter was sent to Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld and Rabbi Yisrael Chaim Taniv and discusses the publication of Rabbi Silberberg's father's manuscripts and payment for an Esrog shipment. He also requests that the two gaonim pray for the recovery of Moh"R Hirsh.
Rabbi Chaim Yaakov Naftali Silberberg [1850-1930] was a prominent Warsaw rabbi. He was a disciple of Rabbi Yisrael Salanter and the Beis HaLevi. He was a confidante of the Netziv of Volozhin and the Chofetz Chaim. Rabbi Elchonon Wasserman was careful to call him with the title "HaGaon HaTzaddik". He was active in strengthening Shabbat observance and famiy purity and printed placards appealing to the public to strengthen their adherence to halacha. He published the manuscripts of his father, Rabbi Avraham Binyamin av"d of וויערשוב, and the manuscripts of his grandfather, the gaon of Kutna, author of Zayit Ra'anan.
