Rare publication of the "Tichelet Lavan" youth movement. Germany, 1933!
Typewritten booklet in German by various leaders of the "Blau Weiss" Jewish youth movement in Germany, which was distributed amongst is members in 1933.
XXV pages. 17x22 cm.
The "blue-white" movement was founded in 1912, and was headed by Dr. Joseph Marcus. It was designated for assimilated German Jews interested in a general youth movement, but who were rejected by National German youth movements. The movement educated their members to take go-back-to-nature nd to live a simple, pre-industrial life; the same ideals as the Wandervogel German national youth movement. At the end of the First World War, the movement had about 3000 members. In 1922, the movement adopted a Zionist platform and encouraged its members to educate themselves for agricultural and vocational work as preparation for their immigration to Palestine. During the 1920s, their members included Prof. Yeshayhu Leibowitz - brother of Nechama Leibowitz, Gershom Scholem and others. In 1929, the movement was deemed illegal, and it was assumed, terminated its work.
This is an interesting historic find, which seems to indicate that the movement was still active in 1933, in Germany, despite the fact that it had been illegalized four years earlier. The movement's ideals were still being disseminated amongst its members, at least until this year, when the Nazi government came to power.
Rare publication that is not in the National Library.
