Handwriting of Rabbi Elazar Rokach of Chortkov-Drohobych. [Galicia, circa 1890]
Eclectic compilation of copies of various old manuscripts, such as Osiot D'Rabbi Akiva, a riddle from Rabbi Avraham Ibn Ezra, items found in the possession of Rabbi Shimshon of Ostropole when he died, an omission from Hilchot Melachim L'Rambam, Sodot Baal HaRokeach, and some of the Ramaz's comments on the Matzat Shimurim from a copy owned by "Rabbi Yosef Meir Weiss of Spinka, an expert in the revealed and hidden Torah, who allowed me to copy from his Matzat Shimurim in a Sephardic script."
[6] leaves. 21x14 cm.
The last page features a letter from Rabbi Elazar Rokach which was sent from the city of Chortkov regarding the copying of the manuscript. He offers instructions regarding how to address the Admor of Belz's children so that they would permit him to copy the manuscripts, with a note of their names and locations (in Latin script): Rabbi Leibush of Margruv, Rabbi Shmuel of Skul and Rabbi Yissachar Dov of Belz (later the Belzer Rebbe). From this it seems that the letter was written in the lifetime of the Rebbe Rabbi Yehoshua of Belz who died in 1894.
Rabbi Elazar Rokach of Chortkov-Drohobych, a relative of Rabbi Elazar Rokach of Brody author of "Ma'aseh Rokeach" and the Belzer Rebbes. in 1895 he published the book Ginzei Yosef by his father-in-law Rabbi Yosef Alter Epstein, with approbations from the Belzer Rebbes, the Spinka Rebbe and others. Served as Rabbi of Drohobych. About him refer to Wonder, Galicia 4 856.
