Brit Moshe, First Edition. Handwritten Scholarly Glosses

Brit Moshe, Part I. Elucidation of the book Sefer Mitzvot Gadol (Sma"g) - "A broad elucidation to explicate the Sma"g, and also the topics that touch upon mitzvahs" by the gaon Rabbi Moshe Chaim Weiss. Munkacs, 1905. First edition. Glosses.

The text of the Sma"g is printed at the center of the leaf, and the lengthy scholarly work Brit Moshe on both sides. The author was a disciple of Rabbi Shmelke Klein of Seleuș. Alongside his greatness in Torah, he was a philanthropist, and even supported a yeshivah at his mansion in Kleinwardien. The book received enthusiastic approbations from the geonim of the generation and from prominent Admo"rs.

Along the book's leaves, there are approximately 10 handwritten scholarly glosses. The identity of the writer has not been deciphered, but he was certainly a first-rate expert Talmudic scholar who was not deterred from disagreeing with the author when he did not reason the same way. One of his glosses in which he disagrees with the author begins with the words: "He made a big mistake here ..."

[2] 226 leaves. Lacking the title page, approbations and some of the indices. The body of the work is complete. 37 cm.
