Discovery: Draft of a Letter from R' Amram Blau to the Admo"r of Satmar about the Gaon of Brisk's Attitude towards Agudat Yisrael
Lengthy letter, important and interesting, from R' Amram Blau to the Admo"r of Satmar about the gaon of Brisk's opinion about many public issues in the Land of Israel and about his real opinion about the Agudat Yisrael movement. [Jerusalem, 1959]. Letter of historic importance.
"It is known that the gaon and pious R' Yitzchak Ze'ev Soloveitchik ztzuk"l was not in agreement with us ..." So opens the letter from R' Amram Blau to the Adm"or Rabbi Yoel of Satmar, at the beginning of his lengthy and detailed letter. The letter was written after the passing of the gaon R' Yitzchak Ze'ev of Brisk at the end of 1959, and it deals with the public outcry over his agreement or disagreement with voting in the upcoming elections, after Agudat Yisrael ran independently in the elections, as it always wanted. R' Amram brings evidence that Heaven forbid should he permit voting in the elections. He also cites the words of R' Yitzchak Ze'ev's son, Rabbi Yosef Dov Soloveitchik. The letter quotes Rabbi Yitzchak Ze'ev who expressed that people heed his voice only when he does not tell them what to do ...
Besides this topic, the letter also deals with the Brisker Rav's attitude towards Chinuch Atzma'i, and he writes that the heads of Chinuch Atzma'i were avoiding coming to him. It also mentions the person who the Brisker Rav requested not sign on their behalf, but did indeed sign, and then 'admitted his transgression.'
