Novellae of the Gaon Rabbi Gedalyah Frankel, Av Beit Din of Sheps and Disciple of Rabbi Bunim of Peshischa

Manuscript of novellae on aggadah and Chassidut by the Chassidic gaon Rabbi Gedalyah Frankel, Av Beit Din of Sheps and disciple of the Admo"rs Rabbi Bunim of Peshischa and then of Rabbi Yitzchak of Vorka. C. 1840.

The Torah novellae before us have not been examined, yet it is known that among his other writings, there has been unknown material found that he had heard from his teachers, Rabbi Bunim of Peshischa and then Rabbi Yitzchak of Vorka (Refer to: Nachalat Tzvi - 15, p. 35, where material like this is cited).

Rabbi Gedalyah Frankel [d. 1965] was the rabbi of Zhromin, and beginning in 1959, he served as rabbi of Sheps, continuing there until his passing. He was a disciple of Rabbi Bunim of Peshischa and then of Rabbi Yitzchak of Vorka. Engraved on his tombstone: "The great luminary ... renowned Chassid." Rabbi Gedalyah of Sheps' manuscripts somehow made their way to the well-known rabbi of Tel Aviv, the gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Yedidyah Frankel (Rabbi Lau's father-in-law) while he was serving as dayan in Riplin, Poland. In light of the Chassidic importance of these rare manuscripts, Rabbi Yitzchak Yedidyah began to work on getting them published, but with the outbreak of the terrible Holocaust, his time ran out. Many years later, in 1982, his descendants published his novellae in the book Gedulat Yisrael (Brooklyn, 1982). We have not checked whether the novellae before us were published there.

[4] pp, approximately 17x21 cm. Thick paper, entirely handwritten by Rabbi Gedalyah Frankel. Material about him included.
