Tosafot HaRo"sh, Copy that Belonged to the Rabbinic Leader of the Generation, the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky. Signature and Dedication

" ... The prayers of every Torah scholar who occupies himself with Torah while enduring economic distress are heard ..." (Sotah 49)

Tosafot HaRo"sh on tractates Gitten (Warsaw, 1927) and Ketubot (Livorno, 1776). Bound together with separate title pages. Copy that belonged to the gadol hador, the prince of Torah, Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky.

Before us is one of most important fundamental books of in-depth halachah, a book that does not leave the desks of Torah scholars. The book before us bears two owners' stamps: "Chaim Kanievsky, Bnei Brak" and an owner's signature in his hand: "From the books of Chaim Kanievsky" as well as a lengthy [23-word] dedication also in Rabbi Chaim's very own hand.

The book before us is especially exciting and demonstrates our Sages' saying, "Torah is only realized among those who 'kill' themselves over it." The dedication in this book is for a bar-mitzvah boy (son of Rabbi Chaim Shaul Karelitz, Ra'ava"d of She'erit Yisrael, Rabbi Chaim's cousin), as this gift was given as a "doron  drashah." Rabbi Chaim, as is known, in the period this dedication was written (1959), when he was a 30-year old avreich, was involved in Torah while enduring economic distress. It was not within his financial means to purchase a book as a bar-mitzvah gift, so he took one of his own books from his bookshelf and gave it as a gift to the bar-mitzvah boy! Indeed, just a years few passed and the saying of our Sages was fulfilled in Rabbi Chaim: "Said R' Yehudah Briyah D' R' Chiya: The prayers of every Torah scholar who occupies himself with Torah while enduring economic distress are heard ..." - as it is well-known that Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky's blessings do not go unfulfilled.
