Yafeh Sha'ah with Many Handwritten Glosses by Kabbalist Rabbi Aharon Moshe Pereira.

Yafeh Sha'ah, commentary on books by Rabbi Chaim Vital: Etz HaChaim, Sha'ar HaKavanot and Mevo She'arim, by Rabbi Shlomo Cohen. Salonika, 1813. First edition. Owner's signatures and many handwritten glosses by the G-dly Kabbalist Rabbi Aharon Moshe Pereira.

The book Yafeh Sha'ah is one of the most important commentaries on Etz Chaim and on Kavanot and is currently printed in the common edition of Kitvei HeAr"i. The author was a Kabbalist among the sages of Jerusalem; he went on a mission to Turkey. He also authored Hora'at Sha'ah, Sha'ar HaKosher, Sha'at Ratzon and Sha'ot D'Rabbanan. He passed away in 1827.

Along the leaves of the book, there are dozens of handwritten glosses by the G-dly Kabbalist Rabbi Aharon Rephael Chaim Moshe Pereira. Most of the glosses are very lengthy and in some he criticizes and disagrees with the author! Some of the glosses conclude with the Kabbalists' characteristic closing: "True and complete" ["אמת ושלם"]. It is unknown whether the glosses before us have been printed, but one who prints them has a tremendous and rare blessing from Kabbalist Rabbi Aharon Rephael himself awaiting him, as he wrote in his will about the publication of his writings: "Who will bring benefit to the rabbis and enlighten eyes with Hashem's help ... Anyone who makes efforts for my soul [נרנח"י] ... I will also make efforts on his behalf and on behalf of his entire household with all my strength in the World-to-Come, in my place there, that Hashem compensate him for his work, and his compensation will be complete in this world and in the next world.

The G-dly Kabbalist Rabbi Aharon Rephael Chaim Moshe Pereira [known as Afa"r Yitzchak, as well as Aracha"m - Aharon Rephael Chaim Moshe] was born in Salonika to his father Rabbi Yitzchak Pereira. He ascended to Jerusalem together with his family in 1848 as was immediately appointed one of its Kabbalistic sages, one of the individuals in the Beit E-l community and sages of Chessed E-l. He was known as unique among the Kabbalists of his generation. He passed away in 1887. He authored the Kabbalistic book Toldot Aharon U'Moshe V'Afar Yitzchak (Jerusalem, 1870), Davar Hashem MiYerushalayim (1873) and the Kabbalistic book Me'il Kodesh U'Bigdei Yesha was printed posthumously his son Kabbalist Rabbi Yitzchak Pereira, from the glosses his father wrote on the sheets of the Kabbalistic books studied (!) by his primary disciple Rabbi Akiva Yosef Schlesinger, who said about him in his eulogy "Aharon's character cannot be measured nor related. Until the day of his death not once was he to be found sleeping at midnight; he arose as a lion at midnight to go to the Beit E-l study hall, and he would arouse and encourage his comrades to join him, aside from those he influenced in Salonika ..." More material about him attached.
