Jewish Shoemaker Doll, Apparently Magda Watts, Israel, 1970s-80s
30 cm. tall (without stand), unusual doll made from a variety of materials (cloth, rubber, felt and more) of a Jewish shoemaker with tzitzit and kippa, glasses and tools. Magda Watts (1929) was born in Hungary and was sent to Auschwitz at the age of 15. After becoming sick and unfit for labor, she started creating dolls from rags, which ended up saving her life. After immigrating to Israel, she continued making dolls and established a doll museum that relates the story of the Jewish Nation. Her dolls are recognized as Judiaca and have become well-known throughout the world and exhibited in many exhibitions in the United States and Europe. Breaks and blemishes. Overall fine condition.
