Letter from Rabbi Shimshon Aharon Plonski - the "Tepliker Rav" - Teacher of Rabbinic Leaders of Jerusalem, 1934

Letter with a feel of yesteryear. Rabbi Shimshon Aharon Plonski, Av Beit Din of Teplik and rabbi of the Beit Yisrael neighborhood of Jerusalem, appeals in his letter to the head of the Etz Chaim institutions, the gaon Rabbi Yechiel Michel Tukachinsky. From his letter we learn that the Talmud Torah in the Beit Yisrael neighborhood was under the former's leadership. He turns to the latter with the request that he accept some of the students to the Etz Chaim yeshivah. The "Tepliker Rav" mentions, inter alia, that R' Aryeh has observed these children - he is clearly referring to the tzaddik of Jerusalem, Rabbi Aryeh Levin, who served as mashgiach at the Etz Chaim Talmud Torah. The "Tepliker Rav, " one of the leading rabbinic instructors in the world (see below), concludes his letter in the tone of a posek and dayan: "I am obligated to remind [your] Torah honor, who will certainly fulfill his promise in this matter.

Rabbi Shimshon Aharon Plonski [1876-1948], known as 'The Tepliker Rebbe, ' was the Av Beit Din of Teplik. He was the teacher of all the leading rabbinic instructors in Jerusalem (including Rabbi David Jungreis, Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach, Rabbi Shmuel HaLevi Wosner, Rabbi Yisrael Ya'akov Fisher, Rabbi Ovadiah Yosef, Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv and Rabbi Binyamin Mendelsohn). His genius, wisdom and righteousness were a byword from the day he ascended to the Land, as his name preceded him as one of the most prominent adjudicators in Russia.

[1] leaf paper, 27 cm. Ink on official stationery, entirely in the gaon of Teplik's hand and with his signature and stamp. Placed in its original envelope.

Very fine condition. Fold marks.
