המחבר [תקס"ג-תרכ"ה] מגדולי תלמידי רבי עקיבא איגר, שלמד אצלו שמונה שנים, ואף קיבל ממנו מכתב הסכמה לספר שלפנינו.
המחבר, כיהן כרב בכמה מקומות: בזאדון (ליד קרוטושין), שמיגל (ליד פוזנא), ואחר כך ר"מ בקלויז המפורסם בהמבורג על מקום רבי מאיר האס יחד עם רבי אליקים גטשליק שלזינגר, שהיו גם מחותנים. חתנו: רבי דוד בן אליקים שלזינגר.
