המחבר היה מגדולי חכמי קלויז בראד. הגאון בעל הנודע ביהודה הסכים על ספרו ומופיע בספרי תשובותיו בתוארים מופלגים ביותר. בין דבריו "ידעתי מה היה דרכו, מעודו לא מש מאוהל התורה, להגות יומם ולילה בעיון ובעומק ההלכה".
בספר הסכמות מרבני ירושלים ועוד הוסיפו ההסכמות מגדולי אשכנז שכבר הסכימו על ספרו 'חידושי רבי זאב הלוי' שנדפס בזאלקאווא בשנת תקכ"ה.
