Letter from the rabbis of Jerusalem, headed by the Aderet and Rabbi Shmuel Salant. Jerusalem, c. 1902.
Letter from the leaders of Jerusalem regarding the Etz Chaim Talmud Torah and Yeshivah,
signed by its leaders, including the signature of the Aderet and Rabbi Shmuel Salant (stamp with his signature).
The letter asks for help getting promotional letters and pamphlets for Yeshivas Etz Chaim past the Russian censor:
The letter is also signed by:
* Rabbi Aryeh Leib Rashks of Shnipishok
* Rabbi Yechezkel Livshitz ben Rabbi Baruch Mordechai Livshitz, author of the
Beis Mordechai.
* Rabbi Elchanan Yehoshua Moshe Schlank.
In 1901, already over 80 years old, Rabbi Shmuel Salant brought the Aderet to help him lead the Jerusalem rabbinate. Unfortunately, though, the Aderet passed away suddenly about four years later. This letter must have been sent in the four years he spent in Jerusalem, between 1901-1905.
Letterhead of the Etz Chaim Talmud Torah and Yeshivah, double leaf, text on both sides of the first page.
Size: 22x29 cm.
Fine condition. Important, impressive document.
