In his introduction, Rabbi Zev Wolf Einhorn writes that for the first half of the Midrash, Rabbi Yaakov of Slonim, grandson of the Gra, gave him his father’s manuscript, that of Rabbi Avraham the son of the Gaon of Vilna, and he copied some of his glosses.
