Rabbi Eliyahu Mizrachi – Re’em. Krakow [1595]. Antiquated, parchment binding.

Comprehensive supercommentary on Rashi’s commentary on the Torah by Rabbi Eliyahu Mizrachi – the “Re’em.” In Parshat Masai (leaf 280,b) there is a map of the borders of Eretz Yisrael on a half a page.

Rabbi Eliyahu Mizrachi (c. 1455 – 1525) was a prominent Constantinopolitan rabbi in the era of the expulsion from Spain. His elucidation on Rashi’s commentary on the Torah is the most thorough and significant supercommentary on Rashi’s words.
The Re’em wrote about this supercommentary in his responsa (siman 5) “I sit here writing a sharp, organized commentary on Rashi’s commentary on the Chumash, I think that nobody has done this before…my intention is solely to illuminate the eyes of those who try to understand the words of the great luminary in his commentary on the Chumash and to remove doubts and questions asked by the great Ramban z”l in his works…”
