Letter from Rabbi Aharon Bakst av”d Shavli
Letter from Rabbi Aharon Bakst av”d Shavli, written in 1940, requesting assistance for a widow whose husband left her a house in Tel Aviv, but was not receiving the proceeds she was entitled to. The last line is written in his hand and bears his signature.
Rabbi Aharon Bakst hy”d was a unique Lithuanian Torah leader at the time of the Holocaust. He was a student of both the Volozhin and Slobodka yeshivahs, was a disciple of the Alter of Kelm, and was close to the Chafetz Chaim. He served in the rabbinate in Shadova, Lomza and Shavli until he was cruelly murdered in the Shavli ghetto by the Nazis.
