Judaica - an old Indian menorah from an Indian family, first half of the 20th century.
A small and delicate backplate Hanukkah lamp menorah, from an Indian Jewish family.
A special Indian menorah, first half of the 20th century, Coc'hin region, made of chrome-plated brass, designed with a back in the shape of a Star of David, the word 'Zion' in the center, a horizontal front part from which the casted brass arms of the menorah comes out.
The back part of the menorah is cut by hand by a craftsman, the arms of the lamps are cast from brass with a quality hand finish.
The menorah is in good general condition, missing the glass cups that are used as oil fonts.
The menorah is rare because of its size, the Indian menorahs of the Southern Indian Jewry style were usually large heavy and cumbersome and were used in synagogues, this menorah is delicate, it was probably used in a private home of a Jewish family. The size of the menorah is about 25 x 23 cm.
The auction house can help and refer the winner to a glass manufacturer who will restore the colored glass cups.
See photos for the condition and description of the menorah.
