Echo's of controversy of Hungarian community. Letter by the Gaon Rabbi Eliezar Lev son of the renowned gaon Rabbi Yermiyah Lev, who dealt with the burial of a deceased and and negotiation with the Neolog community.
Fascinating letter about the request of a deceased to be buried in another city, and negotiation attempts by the Orthodox Chevra Kadisha (burial society) with the Neolog community in the city of Budapest.
Letter from the renowned gaon Rabbi Eliezar Lev, son of the great and famous gaon Rabbi Yermiyahu Lev from great sages of Hungary and from the leaders of the 'Status Quo Ante' Movement during the great rift of the Jews in Hungary which divided the communities.
The letter was sent on Sunday Vayigash 1899, discussing the option of purifying a deceased from a different city and bringing his body to be buried in a different city, in a compromise that was made with the Neolog community.
The great gaon Rabbi Yermiyah Lev (1811-1874), was born in Kolin in Moravia to his father the gaon Rabbi Binaymin Zev Wolf author of 'Sharei Torah' (son of the 'Shemen Rokeach'). From his early childhood he was famous for his wonderful talents and diligence in Torah, and when he turned 17 years he merited to be crowned with Semicha (authorization for Hora'ah) from the great sage of the generation the Maharam Banet. Also after his marriage he continued and strengthened his superb diligence especially in familiarity in all of Shas And the verdicts and in other philosophical sefarim. He sharply opposed Chassidim and Chassidut.
In the community debate, he did not join to set up the separate communities (of Orthodox and Neolog), in fact he lead the 'Status Quo Ante' system.
His son the Gaon Rabbi Elazer Lev, continued his ways of Rabbanut and customs, but he brought the members of his congregation to the Orthodox community.
