The Gaon Rabbi Chaim ben Rabbi Yaakov Abulafia (1660-1744) – Charity collector and Av Beis Din of Tzfas, Izmir, and Tveria. From the rebuilder of the Jewish settlement in Tveria. Author of ‘Yosef Lekach’ and ‘Etz HaChaim’ on the Torah, ‘Yashresh Yaakov’ and ‘Shvut Yaakov’ on Ein Yaakov, and other Seforim.Was a disciple of Rabbi Moshe Galanti th second) in Yeshiva ‘Beit Yaakov’ in Jerusalem, and studied there together with Rabbi Chizkiyahu da Silva, author of ‘Pri Chadash’.
The Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Nissin ibn Jamil – born in Tzefas and grew up in Yerushalayim. From the leading Rabbonim of Yerushalayim and Chevron. Rabbi Chaim Abulafia’s maternal grandfather. Author of ‘Chaim VeChessed’ and ‘Be’er Lachai’. Responsa from him are quoted in Responsa Mahari Beirav.
