Liflagot Reuven – Dedication by the Author Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis
Liflagot Reuven vol. V, Keidan (Kėdainiai), 1932. Dedication handwritten by the author, the immense Gaon Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis, Rosh Av Beis Din of Kalvarija and later Chief Rabbi of Yerushalayim.
In the dedication, written to his brother-in-law Rabbi Meir Shmaryahu Shachet, in 1933, he describes him with many accolades and blessings, and signs with his full signature and stamp, and the notation ‘the author’.
The Gaon Av Beis Din, Maran Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis (1864–1954), from the greatest Rabbonim of Yerushalayim and Ros Av Beis Din of of the Eidah Charedis. Born in Šnipiškės (Shnipishuk) to his father Rabbi Tzvi Hirsh. Toiled in learning at the Yeshiva on Volozhyn and was ordained by the Torah luminaries of the generation: the Netziv, Rav Yitzchak Elchonon Spektor, and Rav Chaim of Brisk. Beginning in 1894 he served in the rabbinate of Boćki, Kalvarija, and Smolensk. In 1938 he was called to serve as Rav Av Beis Din of the Eidah Charedis in Yerushalayim, and emigrated to Eretz Yisroel. In Yerushalayim he led the community with strength. His students included Maran Rav Shlomo Zalmen Ohrbach and Maran Rabbi Yosef Shlaom Elyashiv.
24 (sides) 66 pp. 2 title pages. The first title page and the last page appear to be dust jackets. All bound in an old, slightly damaged binding. Somewhat dry pages. Wear and some detaced pages. Good condition.
