Among all holy artifacts, tobacco boxes are oustanding and the greatest of Chassidus and Kabbala said great things about them.
Kabbalistic and Chassidic books deal with the importance and holiness of artifacts of Tzaddikim. Following are just a few examples:
In Midrash Raba Shir HaShirim 81 on the verse "לריח שמניך טובים":
In the Beis Midrash of R.A. there was a special stone on which he sat. Once, R. Yehoshua entered and started kissing that stone, saying: "This stone is similar to Mount Sinai and this upon which he sat is like Ark of the Covenant".
Chasssam Sofer on Parashas Toldos:
The holy Rav author of the Divrei Chaim of Sanz had in his possession an exclusive tobacco box, though he never smelled from it. Before 'Kol Nidrei' Erev Yom Kippur, his son the holy Rav of Czchów as child was in a very dangerous state. The daughter of the Divrei Chaim requested her father to pray for the child but the Divrei Chaim exclaimed who can think of these things in such a high moment. The daughter did not give up until her father relented and said: 'lay the tobacco box on the child and he will yet live a long life and bring forth salvations'.
Indeed, when the holy Rav of Czchów recovered from his sickness he safeguarded this exclusive tobacco case his whole life, and he cured many sick people, by instructing to put this box on the body of the sick or women in childbirth.
The holy Rav the Ahavas Yisroel of Vizhnitz possessed the exclusive tobacco box of the holy Rav Rabbi Mordechei of and he kept it before him during the prayers on Yamim Noraim. His son the holy Rav the "Imrei Chaim of Vizhnitz also had the tobacco box before him during all the prayers on the Yamim Noraim and from time to time he smelled from it. The Ahavas Yisroel said: "I smell more than the tobacco…"
The Holy Rav Maran the Tzaddik Rabbi Elazar Menachem Mendel of Lelov [1827-1883] the son of the Holy Rav Rabbi Moshe of Lelov and the son of the daughter of the Holy Rav HaYehudi HaKaddosh MiPshischa, a sublime Tzaddik and wonder-worker who was famed for his prayers and Avodas Hashem.
Once, when Rabbi Elazar Mendel's pious daughter travelled to Galicia, she met with the daughter of the holy Rav of Sanz who told her that she once heard her holy father saying: מיר זענען דאך אין הומעל, האבן מיר גיזעהן אז דעם שענסטן סדר אפגירעכט רבי אלעזר מענדל מירושלים [we ... have seen and realized that the most 'beuatiful' Seder was conducted by Rabbu Elazar Mendel of Jerusalem].
The height of the tower is 20 cm. Box-like in its center with a door closing with a latch. On it, a tower and beneath it a stem of varying widtj. Its base has a floral engraving. Hallmarked silver '800' as was customary in Russia of the period. A piece is missing from the top of the tower, possibly a star-of-David or another decoration. Good-very good condition.
