Sefer Chidushei Galanti, on tractates Beutzah, Yevamot, Gittin, Bava Metzi'ah and more by Rabbi Yedidya ben Rabbi Moshe Galanti, with Chidushei HaRan on trcatate Shvu'ot and Chidushei HaRitva on trcatate Bava Metzi'ah. The press of Hirsch ben Chaim of Furth, Willhelmsdorf, [1716]. A copy that was given as a gift by Rabbi Chaim Palachi and with the signature of his leading disciple Rabbi Yehuda Danon. First edition as a separate book. Rare.
[1], 62 leaves. The book was printed for the first time inside Shut Rabbi Moshe Galanti (Venice, 1608). Written in the ownership notation appearing on the title page:
"מעט"ר [=מעטרת ראשי] מרן החבי"ף [רבי חיים פלאג'י] נר"ו", "מקנת כסף לעט"ר [=לעטרת ראשי] מ"ח [=מחכם] הגביר ה"ח ה"מ [=החכם המרומם]... חיים יצחק אלגראנאטי נ"י ונתנו לי במתנה הצעיר יהודה דנון ס"ט וכל הגונב אותו יתלו אותו על העץ".
Rabbeinu the Chabif, Rabbi Chaim Palachi (1788-1868) one of the greatest Sephardic Poskim and Kabbalsist of all time. Was born in Izmir to his father Rabbi Yaakov. On his mother's side he was a descendant of the Rishon LeZion Rabbi Yosef Raphael ben Chaim Chazan author of "Chikrei Lev", served as his Meshamesh and received his Semicha from him. In his Sefer "Tzava'ah MeChaim", Rabbi Chaim recalls his early years: "May Heaven and Earth be my witnesses that since the day I became knowledgeable until I was twenty years old I would study diligently day and night without any Bitul". Rabbi Chaim studied Torah with Rabbi Pinchas di Shigora. In 1837, Rabbi Chaim was appointed Av Beis Din of the great Beis Din of Izmir and in 1855 was appointed Chacham Bashi of the Jews of Turkey. Rabbi Chaim authored dozens of compositions on all subjects of the Torah.
