Babylonian Talmud Tractate Kiddushin. Shapiro Press in Zhitomir, 1863
Babylonian Talmud Tractate Kiddushin. Printed by the partners, the grandsons of the Rav of Slavuta, the press of the rabbinic Chanina Lipa and the rabbinic Yehoshua Heschil Shapiro in Zhitomir, 1863.
A volume of tractate Kiddushin bound in itself, two title pages with red lettering. Includes the Maharsha, the Rif and the Mordechai which were sometimes printed separately.
The printery of the Shapiro family of Slavuta, which was closed due to an informing to the authorities, was reestablished in Zhitomir in 1847 by the grandsons of the Rav of Slavuta, Rabbi Chanina Lipa and Rabbi Yehoshua Heschil Shapiro and operated until 1864. This printery printed an edition of the Shas with many additions. The format of the leaf was one of the most impressive ones. To some of the tractates, the composition Meir Nativ by Rabbi Shabtai Hacohen was added at their end. It is known that the Chazon Ish especially liked using the Zhitomir edition of the Shas because of the Meir Nativ composition that was added to it and which does not appear in other editions.
Seforim that were printed at the printeries of Slavuta and Zhitmoir were known for their special holiness and sanctity, their printing blocks being immersed in a Mikveh before being used. It is common knowledge that possessing a book that was printed in Zhitomir or Slavuta is a Segulah for an abundance of blessing and success.
