Asta Bidspirit | Hand-Woven Wall Tapestry – Aleph

Hand-Woven Wall Tapestry – Aleph Symbol (Histadrut General Federation of Labor) - Hand-woven tapestry of wool threads on cotton, worked on a loom; Israel, 1950s/60s. Framed under glass in the original wood frame with inner gilt borders. This miniature wall tapestry was executed in a traditional hand-weaving technique, depicting the letter Aleph in a cream tone against a deep burgundy-wine ground, decorated with light fringe (tassels) along the upper and lower edges. The Aleph is rendered in the modernist and geometric typography deeply associated with the historic logo of the Histadrut General Federation of Labor in the Land of Israel from the early statehood period. Items of this type were typically produced in small editions in the craft workshops of companies such as Maskit or pioneering women's organizations, and served as representative wall decoration in institutional offices and private homes of members of the Labor movement. The tapestry is preserved in very fine condition relative to its age, stretched over a light cardboard backing and set in a period wood frame with delicate gilt-strip decoration. Tapestry dimensions: 36 × 25 cm. Frame: 51 × 38.5 cm. Light yellowing to the board on which the tapestry is mounted.
