Asta Bidspirit | Kibbutz / Pioneer Passover Haggadah
Kibbutz / Pioneer Passover Haggadah – Kibbutz Ein Harod, 1950s. Unique Alternative Text with the Omer Harvest Song and a Prayer ”For the State of Israel” - A non-traditional pioneer Haggadah issued by Kibbutz Ein Harod in the early years of the state (the 1950s). A fascinating Judaica ephemera item reflecting the unique synthesis created by the kibbutz movement between the values of Zionism, agriculture, and statehood and the festivals of Israel. Notable features: The Omer Harvest Ceremony: The Haggadah opens with the ”Psalm of the Bringing of the Omer” – the celebrated Omer harvest song by kibbutz member Moshe Tabenkin and composer Shalom Postolsky (”The sun in the west descends and sets”), accompanied by the ritual dialogue based on the Mishnah. This section became the defining hallmark of Ein Harod Haggadahs. State Conclusion: The final page of the Haggadah is dedicated to a special festive prayer ”For the State of Israel, ” blessing the ingathering of the exiles, the building of the land, the IDF, and peace. The Haggadah is decorated with fine illustrations in a woodcut style characteristic of kibbutz printing of the period. In fair-to-good condition. Interior pages complete and legible with natural wear and light age stains (patina). The rear cover is lacking, and the Haggadah concludes with the paper page of ”For the State of Israel.” The original front cover is present (with light wear to the corners). 23 cm.
