Asta Bidspirit | Sculptural Erotic Bronze Walking Stick
Sculptural Erotic Bronze Walking Stick Handle – Allegorical Female Nude Figure; Europe (France/Belgium), Belle Époque, Art Nouveau - An original and highly impressive bronze handle for a walking stick (cane handle), designed in the figurative and organic style of European Art Nouveau at its peak, circa 1900. The entire composition is sculpted as an allegorical and sensual female nude, interwoven and merging within undulating and sinuous contours (”Whiplash curves”) that distinctly characterize the spirit of the period. The figure's arms are raised toward her head in an enveloping and protective pose, and the subtle inclination of her body naturally and ergonomically forms the perfect grip curve of the handle. On the side of the grip cylinder is engraved, in a flowing and organic hand: ”Silence” — a sought-after philosophical-allegorical motif in late 19th-century art, symbolizing secrecy, mystery, or inner contemplation. The rear of the elbow is decorated with a relief bearing the texture of an organic growing branch or flower. The bronze displays a dark, deep, and original patina, with light and attractive natural abrasions at the high-contact points revealing the golden bronze tone beneath. At the base of the handle a brass ring is fitted, intended for screwing or attaching to a wooden shaft. An exceptional decorative and collector's piece, preserved in very good condition. Signed ”Violence”. Dimensions: 7.5 × 10.5 cm. 190 g.
