Sefer yuhasin
In 1504, while in Tunisia, Abraham Zacuto wrote a history of the Jewish people, Sefer yuḥasin, starting with the Creation of the World and going to 1500,[10][11] and several other astronomical/astrological treatises. The History was highly regarded and was reprinted in Cracow in 1581, in Amsterdam in 1717, and in Königsberg in 1857, while a complete, uncensored, [12] edition was published by Herschell Filipowski in London in 1857.[13
Abraham Zacuto (Hebrew: אַבְרָהָם בֵּן שְׁמוּאֵל זַכּוּת, romanized: Avraham ben Shmuel Zacut, Portuguese: Abraão ben Samuel Zacuto; 12 August 1452 – c. 1515) was a Sephardic Jewish astronomer, astrologer, mathematician, rabbi and historian. Born in Castile, he served as Royal Astronomer to King John II of Portugal before fleeing to Tunis.
His astrolabe of copper, astronomical tables, and maritime charts played an important role in the Spanish and Portuguese voyages of discovery, being used by both Vasco Da Gama and Christopher Columbus.[
PROOPS, a family of Jewish printers, publishers and booksellers in Amsterdam. SOLOMON BEN JOSEPH (d. 1734), whose father may also have been a Jewish printer, was established as a bookseller in Amsterdam and collaborated with other printers from 1697 to 1703. In 1704 he founded his own Hebrew printing press, which produced mainly liturgical books, but also a wider range of works on halakha, aggadah, kabbalah, ethics and history. In 1714 Proops began printing an edition of the Talmud, in competition with the edition planned by Samuel b. Solomon Marches and Raphael b. Joshua de Palacios, but was forced to cease by them due to their previous rabbinical monopoly. From 1715 Propps' output included advertisements for the books he had published, and in 1730 he issued a sales catalogue (Appiryon Shelomo), the first such publication in Hebrew. After his death, appointed trustees continued to run the press, and even when his sons JOSEPH (d. 1786), JACOB (d. 1779), and ABRAHAM (d. 1792) took over, they traded under the old name until 1751. Between 1752 and 1765 the sons - now under their own name - printed an edition of the Talmud with interruptions, partly due to attempts to print the Talmud in *Sulzbach, against which they successfully asserted their own rabbinical monopoly. In 1761 they purchased the printing stock of *Athias, but business declined. In 1785 Joseph Prups sold the greater part of his work to Kurzbeck of Vienna, and when he died a year later his widow and sons, for a time in partnership with Abraham Prups, continued printing in small quantities until 1812. From 1774 until his death Jacob Prups worked alone; his widow and sons continued until 1793 and until 1797 in partnership with SOLOMON (d. 1833), son of Abraham Prups; Solomon worked alone until 1827. Abraham Prups worked alone in 1776–79; he subsequently removed his business to *Offenbach, but his son, who worked with him, returned to Amsterdam after his father's death. DAVID, son of Jacob Proops, printed from 1810 to 1849 in partnership with H. van Emde and his widow, when the printing house was sold to Levisson, who continued it until 1869; the Levisson brothers continued in business until 1917.
