Hannah Harag Sunz (1915-2007), ceramic bowl, with hand-painted bright earth-like brown shade decorations, signed (imprint) - the stamp has been verified by the artist's daughter! Slightly damaged: several chips in brim, diameter: 24 cm. * Hannah Harag Sunz (1915-2007) was a German-born Israeli ceramic artist. Sunz is considered one of the founders of Israeli ceramics. in 1940, after fleeing Europe to England, she immigrated to Israel. At first she settled in Tel Aviv, but later moved to Jerusalem where she worked at Ledwig Grossmann's studio for two years. At the time, she taught in the Progressive School of Education founded by Deborah Calen and founded herself workshop for ceramic finjans in Beit Jala , where she collaborated with Arab potters. From the very beginning of her ceramic work in Israel, Sunz, like Grossmann, used local materials instead of imported materials. In addition, she was the first Israeli to use local stoneware, which contained material from across the Jordan River mixed with a local substance discovered by Sunz, Grossmann and others in Motza.
